It is with great pleasure that I write this letter of recommendation for Carlton Rounds. I have known Mr. Rounds for more than fifteen years and have had the pleasure of working with him on several different projects and academic pursuits in that time.
A born teacher, Mr. Rounds has that unusual quality of being able to meet students wherever they stand. He has strong multicultural skills, an awareness of different styles of learning, a warm and welcoming personality and high expectations. His students always feel both cared for and challenged, nurtured and tested – and more often than not, feel that their lives have been altered by their contact with him. I have seen him in the classroom with young children, with middle school children, with high school children and with adult learners. He always finds a way to make the information he is sharing both exciting and relevant to the lives of his students.
One of the core courses in our Integrative Studies program is INTD 212: Perspectives on Social Institutions. Mr. Rounds was instrumental in the updating of the curriculum for this course and has taught it numerous times for us in both the 15-week term and in an accelerated hybrid (online and face-to-face) format. Our graduates often mention this class, in particular, when speaking about the profound effects of studying in an interdisciplinary program.
In addition to his strengths in the classroom, Mr. Rounds is also a strong supporter of his peers, constantly exchanging ideas about different areas of study, constantly working to bring out the best in himself and others. He believes in education, and while this seems like a simple statement, it makes all the difference.
